2012 Symposium Overview

What is the best way for physicians to update their knowledge in cardiovascular medicine, the medical discipline linked to the greatest technological evolution of the past two decades? Which other medical specialty has witnessed a similar metamorphosis in terms of the methods by which patients are diagnosed and definitely managed as the heart and vascular specialties? As in years past, the 2012 Scottsdale Interventional Forum has been specifically designed to meet these challenges. Offering a comprehensive summary of the latest cardiovascular research, this two and a half day symposium provides all the tools necessary for practicing physicians to hone their diagnostic and treatment skills, presented by a world-class faculty.

In addition to reviewing the basic pathophysiologic mechanisms leading to heart and vascular disease, SIF 2012 will also focus on controversies in medicine, new imaging technologies, new pipeline devices and novel interventional therapies for patients who previously were considered “no option” patients. This is achieved through didactic lectures, challenging specialty workshops and reinforced by live case demonstrations. The highlight of these live cases is the question-and-answer sessions that follow, where attendees have direct access to a faculty, considered to be the foremost authorities in the field.

SIF 2012 will kick off with an in-depth review of what we have learned from cardiovascular device healing and how this may be relevant to patients being treated in the future for structural heart disorders, as well as other vascular diseases. Included in these opening sessions is a review of the pivotal trials of the last 12 months. This information will be further complimented by our live case demonstrations. Other facets to the live case discussions emphasize appropriate use issues, case selection, multimodality imaging (IVUS, OCT, NIR Spectroscopy) as well as the employment of invasive functional data such as FFR. These concepts are all integrated into the case discussions in order to devise the best patient treatment strategy.

The first day’s sessions will also include a review of complex coronary interventions including multi-vessel disease and left main, treatment of CTOs and bifurcations, as well as a discussion of the role of radial arteriotomy as a “first choice” in percutaneous treatment. The opening day will conclude with a symposium presented by experts in the field of hemodynamic support.

The next two days will provide attendees the opportunity to enter the next interventional revolution as they receive an in-depth analysis of next generation devices and treatment strategies including structural heart disease (TAVI, Mitralclip, LAA Closure). These sessions will also incorporate other important future technologies including bioabsorbable scaffolds, drug-eluting balloons, carotid intervention and novel modalities which can predict who is at greatest risk for developing heart disease.

Day 2 will conclude with an Imaging Symposium providing a comprehensive review of the use of CTA and MRI in clinical practice. Finally, a very practical “How To” Session for the interventionalist covering all aspects of heart and vascular therapies is planned.

In summary, the primary focus of this three day Forum is to provide the participants an understanding of the practical application of new technologies while still emphasizing the latest scientific data on existing approaches to heart and vascular disease.

We look forward to your attendance and participation in the 2012 SIF Symposium!
